Mental Health Nurse (RN or LPN)

Oxbow Center Worland/W.J. Group Home/The Lighthouse

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Residential Coordinator

Job Summary:

Provide nursing care to psychiatric patients at outpatient and inpatient behavioral health programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Advocate for client’s and family’s needs, and provide emotional support for clients and their families.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by psychiatric providers to include occasional long-acting injectable medications requiring specialized training.
  • Assist clients or psychiatric providers with applying for Patient Assistance Programs or obtaining medications through other low cost means (such as the Wyoming Medication Donation Program.)
  • Facilitate therapeutic or diagnostic procedures as ordered by psychiatric or medical providers.
  • Assess client’s vital signs, physical status, and/or laboratory data and promptly report abnormalities to psychiatric or medical providers.
  • Coordinate between psychiatric providers, pharmacies, medical providers and clients to ensure medications are filled or refilled, as appropriate. This includes counting/tracking medication quantities at The Lighthouse or Wallace Johnson Group Home at least one or two times weekly and the supervision of Mental Health Technicians or clients self-administration of medications.
  • Monitor client’s mental and physical status and report concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Promote wellness by providing client monitoring, education, and referral to other health care providers; including assisting with scheduling and attending appointments if needed.
  • Coordinate care between primary therapists and psychiatric/medical providers to appropriately manage psychiatric emergencies and admissions to The Lighthouse.
  • Maintain professional and respectful working relationships with colleagues, other agencies, and community members to ensure quality client care, enhance agency functioning, and meet community needs.
  • Prepare and maintain all required documentation in accordance with Oxbow Policy and Procedures, HIPAA laws, CARF, and Wyoming State Board of Nursing regulations. Documentation includes, but is not limited to: records of nursing and case management services, medication records, and assistance with psychiatric provider notes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to client’s treatment.
  • Prepare and maintain daily schedule to accurately reflect services provided. Ensure documentation is in accordance with services provided.
  • Attend and complete continuing education and training as deemed necessary by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing regulations or Oxbow Policy and Procedures. Maintain current State licenses and certification(s) and promptly provide updated copies to Oxbow.
  • Provide education and consultation to agency staff, community members, other providers, and client family members as necessary.
  • Provide services to other agencies as assigned by Oxbow staff to include, but not limited to, the following: Wallace Johnson Group Home, The Lighthouse, and Washakie County Detention Center.
  • Provide education to Oxbow, Lighthouse, or Wallace Johnson Group Home staff to meet CARF regulations for annual medical or clinical training.
  • Provide on-call (telephone) services as available for Lighthouse clients/staff with medical or psychiatric concerns and provide liaison services between psychiatric and/or medical providers.
  • Facilitate bi-weekly telehealth appointments for The Lighthouse and other telehealth appointments as needed for the clients or psychiatric providers at Oxbow or Wallace Johnson Group Home.
  • Prepare discontinued or expired medications for destruction or donation

Education and Experience:

· Meets current State of Wyoming Department of Health and Wyoming Board of Nursing standards as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Yes – will supervise and provide education to Mental Health Technicians to include: medication assistance, standing orders, healthcare compliance regulations, and maintaining medication assistance and treatment records.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
